1400HP Rusty Camaro Takes Roll Racing Top Speed

August 2nd, 2016

They say that it ain’t how you look but what you have under the hood. Never have those words held more truth than with Eric Yost’s ‘rusted out’ classic Camaro. This thing certainly has that ‘distressed’ look that decorators find so appealing these days. Eric not only rolls out in the Outlaw class but also dips his toe in the roll racing event; posting a top speed for the event (174.89 mph) . The old Camaro is running a professionally built 352 cubic-inch engine being force fed air by a 91-millimeter turbocharger. When all the chickens are in the hen Read More

Rocky Mountain Race Week – Blown Mustang

July 11th, 2016

In the epitome of “run what ya’ brung” racing, these teams (sometimes teams of one) are asked to compete in an event that encompasses 4 races in five days; on a 1,300-mile road trip. These teams begin with a full night of racing in Kearney, Nebraska before heading out to the next drag strip in Denver, Colorado (many drag cars with a trailer in tow). After Denver, these guys will move on to Pueblo, Colorado before turning around and driving back to Kearney, with a short stop in Great Bend, Kansas at the S.R.C.A. Dragstrip. Don’t miss Larry Larson in his twin Read More

Single Elimination Street Racing

June 27th, 2016

Take a gander at some old school, single elimination-style street racing, on a deserted 2-lane country road (the bales of hay were my only clue). The preliminary round features a Corvette and a first-generation Mustang. The potent Ford gets the hole-shot but can’t seem to get hooked up on the gear changes. The ‘Vette claims the victory and moves on. Next, we have a Cadillac CTS-V vs. a GenV Mustang. The Caddy pulls the Ford throughout and takes a first round win. Now, we’re on to a contest between a nitrous C6 Corvette and a nitrous Fox body Mustang – Read More

3000HP Second-Gen Camaro Street Car

June 9th, 2016

First of all, this Camaro is a street car. It is an all steel car (prepared by BrandoSpeed) with all of the factory glass intact. Despite weighing in at more than 3,500-pounds, this car whipped every other car in its class – at the Outlaw Chaos Event in Cedar Falls, Iowa – to take home the cash. A massive 540-cubic-inch ProLine racing engine and a pair of turbochargers get this fantastic looking muscle car down the 1/8-mile post-haste. This is a no prep event but the best 1/8-mile ET for this Mustang killer is 4.38-seconds. Take a gander for yourself; Read More

Turbo Z28 Street and Strip Racing

May 4th, 2016

While most drag racers prefer a low-slung ride, this fourth-generation Camaro Z28 owner seems to have actually increased the height of his street sleeper with larger tires and wheels. At any rate, the 6-speed manual transmission must make this thing challenging in competitive situations. The degree of body twist exhibited during the hole-shot (dig racing) indicates that the factory suspension may be overloaded with horsepower. Lets face it – that’s the best kind of problem to have. This attractive pony car is well equipped with a late model (2006 Silverado) 5.3-liter engine with a camshaft upgrade, stronger connecting rod bolts, Read More

Both cars are 110.7-wheelbase coupes with 6-speed manual transmissions and the Chevy weighs 184-pounds more than the Beemer. According to factory specs, both cars turn the 1/4-mile in the 12.4-second range (bone stock). As tested, the Camaro SS cost approximately $35k less than the M4. Despite the two cars being very similar in Read More
