Street Science – SSTX GT-R vs Kong Ported Corvette ZR1

June 29th, 2021

There’s little that compares with warm summer nights and roll racing on a semi-deserted stretch of interstate (down Mexico way). That’s what we have going on tonight when four sultans of the street science come to grips for some intense street hits under the stars. Have a look.

First, we have a contest between a twin turbo Fox Body (small block Ford engine) and a late model Mustang with a Coyote motor. The Fox Body is running 80-millimeter turbos and a 3-speed Powerglide transmission. It has posted a best quarter-mile elapsed time of 8.9-seconds. The Coyote motor is making 800hp and it’s mated to a 6R80 automatic transmission. The Coyote powered Mustang gets the early jump and wins a narrow victory.

Next up is a race between the Fox Body and a Corvette ZR1. The ‘Vette is well heeled with a Kong ported blower, a cylinder head upgrade and a camshaft upgrade. It is making 1,050hp. Both cars come off the jump with the quickness before the ZR1 walks away with the win.

The Fox Body rolls out against the SSTX GT-R next. This Japanese supercar has been enhanced with a full accoutrement of bolt-ons, a full titanium performance exhaust system and it is rolling on a set of awesome looking Volk T37 rims. You won’t believe how this one turns out.
