Rygen’s 2005 Ford Mustang Turbo V6 by PowerHouse

July 4th, 2007

Rygen fell in love the latest generation Ford Mustang for it’s 67 tribute styling outside, 69 tribute styling inside, and the car in both V6 and V8 flavors was very impressive. He test drove both, but at the time, the V8 was not in the cards. After his financial Situation changed, he had to make a decision, get the V8, or stick with the 6 and go all out. Rygen decided to go the path less taken, and see what the Ford Mustang’s V6 can do when forcefed some additional air via a PowerHouse turbochager.

Rygen called PowerHouse Automotive and got their first available customer turbo kit. The kit consists of a PowerHouse Turbo running 9.5 psi with a front mounted intercooler. Rygen subsequently did another round of upgrades to up the boost to 11 psi by changing the wastegate spring, added a PowerHouse driveshaft, AEM wideband sensor and tuned the car with the XCAL2. Power at this stage was 320 hosepower and 371 pounds of torque to the rear wheels.

Next up was a complete engine rebuild that consistsed of a PowerHouse built block, Weisco Pistons, ported heads, 3 angle valve job, turbo cams, JBA shorty headers, 60lb fuel injectors, boost a pump, 8.8 rear end with 3.73 gears. Boost is set for 13 psi on pump gas but can be bumped to an amazing 20 psi. The car now puts down 390 horsepower and 420 pounds of torque and runs 11.75 2 114.48 MPH in the 1/4 mile on Mickey Thompson ET Street tires.

Rygen’s current goal for his unique turbo mustang he calls “Stella” is get into the 10’s, which isn’t that far away with a little more traction off the line and an extra pound or two of boost. We’ll be anxiously awaiting an update to his timeslip here at DragTimes.com when he does break into the 10’s.
