Restomod 1973 Pontiac Grand Am – 600HP Street Monster

October 25th, 2021

Greetings fellow drag racing fans, car enthusiasts and speed aficionados of every ilk. Meet a pair of Shawns and an extraordinary Poncho. Regulars will remember the first Shawn from Autotopia. The second Shawn is the owner – and primary builder – of this exquisite machine.

Shall we begin with the stance? The highly modified stock frame has been fully boxed and outfitted with a four-link coilover setup in the rear. A Global West coilover kit was used to upgrade the front and all four corners are equipped with QA1 double adjustable shocks for a full custom ride. It all gives this old G-Body a predatory stance fit for a killer restomod.

Under the hood is a naturally aspirated GM LS7 (7.0-liter) all-aluminum V8 with a set of Brodix aluminum cylinder heads and a moderate camshaft. The heads are ported for improved flow. The intake manifold is an Atomic AirForce by Holley (MSD) and the fuel injection is Holley as well. The engine can make 600hp and it is mated to a 6-speed Tremec T-56 manual transmission. Final drive gears (in the rear end) are 3.73:1 so, it’s a great highway car. The exhaust note from this beauty is amazing.

The wheels are by Modulare and the brakes are Wilwood.

Let’s go for a test drive.
