Radical 1991 GMC Syclone V8 Turbo Swap – Drag Racing

November 30th, 2022

While trolling the pits at H-Town Throwdown, the 1320 Video crew happened across this unique all-wheel drive mini-pickup truck. The GMC Syclone was offered for the 1991 and (technically) 1992 model years. This pickup featured a turbocharged 4.3-liter V6 engine with an automatic transmission. The Syclone came with a sinister blacked out paint scheme, specialty wheels and flashy badging. That was until the twins got hold of it. You’ve got to see it now.

After bumping the turbo up to a 98-millimeter, the boys pretty much gutted the V6. Heavy-duty seemed to be the order of the day so, they went with the new 6.6-liter L8T truck engine from GM. A set of LS cylinder heads and the same 98mm turbo, and these mad scientists were ready to race again. The automatic transmission, transfer case and differentials remain stock. As you can see, the wheels (wrapped in slicks) are wider than stock. Question is: will these guys love the extra cubic inches or long for their old V6? Only time will tell.

With the Syclone entered in three separate classes, the twins are in for a busy day.
