December 27th, 2021

Seldom have two cars that bear the same name been so different. While the MK4 Toyota Supra (1993-1998) and the MK5 Toyota Supra (2020-present) bear some similarities, they prove to be only skin deep. The MK4 was designed and manufactured by Toyota. It used a Toyota powertrain and other mechanical components. On the other hand, the MK5 version is made by BMW. It is equipped with a BMW motor and rides on a BMW chassis.

Beloved by Toyota enthusiasts, the MK4 Supra is one of the most desired Japanese cars in North America. Under the hood of the turbo cars was the vaunted 3.0-liter 2JZ-GTE inline twin turbocharged six-cylinder. Responsive and durable, the 2JZ-GTE is easily modified for performance purposes. Speaking of which, this particular car has obviously been outfitted with quite an assortment of performance goodies. It is capable of producing 660hp to the rear wheels.

The MK5 Supra also utilizes a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine. This one is assembled in Austria and has only a single turbo. The car featured in the video has been tuned by Phat Botti.

Shall we get these two cars lined up and see what shakes loose?
