New Twin Turbo 1968 Camaro – Too Fast

July 26th, 2021

What’s better than a beautifully restored muscle car? A restomod that can make way more power than the car ever had from the factory. This video features one such car. It’s a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro that has maintained the original aesthetic while dramatically improving the car’s performance with an engine swap and a twin turbo kit. Take a look.

Under the hood, it all starts with a 6.0-liter LS V8 Chevy truck motor. The big V8 is sturdy with four-bolt mains. The turbo kit is built around a pair of VS Racing 6762 dual ball bearing mirror image turbines. The mirror image setup is a bit more expensive, but it keeps everything more symmetrical. Let’s see what happens when this vintage cruiser hits the drag strip.

After an early warning that the car didn’t meet certain safety requirements (no roll cage, etc.), Blake goes on out and runs a first pass of 7.66 @ 88 mph (eighth-mile). That’s acceptable just as long as he keeps it above the 7.35-second mark. Easier said than done for a competitive gearhead like Blake.

Before the evening wraps up, Blake has posted a personal best pass of 6.58 @ 108 mph – and been informed that he must put his Camaro back on the trailer immediately. I see a roll cage in this kid’s future.
