New Cadillac CTS-V to have Supercharged LS7 Corvette motor with 600HP

June 4th, 2007

Various sources are reporting that the new Cadillac CTS-V due out next year as s 2009 model will have the Corvette’s LS7 motor with a supercharger. Although the upcoming Corvette “Blue-Devil” will have the same powerplant approaching 700HP, the small 4 door super-caddy will be setup for 600HP. That’s a lot of power for a sedan of this size.

Current offerings from Mercedes and BMW will be be coming up quite short on the power side of things. The natually aspirated 63 V8 motor from the Mercedes AMG division and BMW’s V10 are only putting out 500HP and don’t have much room for additional horsepower without turbo or supercharging. Mercedes does have it’s V12 twin-turbo motors but right now they are only available in much larger and heavier cars, the SL65, S65 and CL65, all of which are approching the $200,000 price mark.

This new CTS-V could very well be quickest 4 door sedan available at a bargain price. With it’s projected weight of 3,600 pounds, this car could be running low to mid 11’s in the 1/4 mile at well over 120MPH in stock form. Since it’s supercharged, the tuning market will be going crazy with upgrades that should easily extract 700HP via pulley upgrades to add a little more boost along with more agressive intakes, headers and exhaust systems.

Will Mercedes, BMW or Audi have anything to compete with this 4 door muscle car? We hope so!
