LS7 Swapped Gen III Camaro IROC-Z

April 24th, 2019

Hello race fans. Meet Bruce, with Hawks Motorsports and (customer) Brad’s unique 1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z.

With less than 10k on the odometer, Brad decided to do something special with his slug of a Gen III Camaro. He dropped it by Hawks Motorsports (Easley, S.C.) for a huge dose of TLC. Hawks decided to integrate the slo-poke IROC-Z with a much faster 2015 Gen VI Chevrolet Camaro Z28.

After the engine bay was spruced up with a little clear-coat (Kolorworks); out came the meager 5.0-liter “pollution solution” V8 and the mighty LS7 (7.0-liter) all-aluminum V8 took its place. Wizard Cooling components help keep the N/A engine nice and cool. Output went from less than 300hp to approximately 650hp and gross vehicle weight went down. The Tremec T-56 manual transmission from the 2015 Z28 also made the transition.

The entire braking system was upgraded using parts from the new Z28 and help from Baer Brakes. Detroit Speed did the suspension upgrades, and more are scheduled for the near future.

Wheels (Forgeline) and tires were changed to mimic the set on the Gen VI Z28. This car sounds amazing, runs great, and it is a beast on track or strip. Beautiful ride, guys.
