LS Swapped IROC Z28 vs. Modified VW GTI – Street Hits
November 15th, 2023Returning to the streets (of Mexico) tonight, we have a grudge race between a pair of modified street assassins. Can a small motor/big turbo car hold its own against a big motor naturally aspirated machine? After tonight, you’ll have the answer.
The 2016 Volkswagen GTI is typically categorized as a grocery-getter. Not this one. Manufactured with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine, this unit has undergone extensive modification. The turbocharger has been upgraded with full supporting components. The massive intercooler is impossible to overlook. The transmission is a complex VSG setup, and the car has undergone an intense weight reduction process. Maximum output is estimated to be 500whp.
Also claiming 500whp, the 1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28 has been upgraded with a 7.0-liter all-aluminum LS7 V8 engine. The big mill is mated to a Tremec T-56 Magnum 6-speed manual transmission. The Z28 has a full accoutrement of bolt-ons and is tuned to burn 93-octane pump gas.
The time for talking is done. Let’s get these two hyenas out in the cool night air and listen to them howl.
