Hood Muscle – 800HP Twin Turbo 1970 Chevelle SS

June 9th, 2021

This 1970 Chevelle SS is a build that takes me back to running errands with my Grandpa. Difference is that Gramps old Chevy wasn’t putting down 800hp to a set of 22-inch tires. This thing is a beast of a premium build that the crew at Hood Muscle nailed right on the money. Check it out.

Under the hood is a built 5.3-liter LS engine with a pair of Nelson Racing 72-millimeter turbochargers. The camshaft is a BTR Stage 2, and this beast is sucking air through a 92-millimeter throttle body. The built TH350 automatic transmission is aided with a Hughes Performance 3000 stall converter and the (posi-trac) rear end is a Ford 9-inch with a 3.73/1 final drive ratio and 31-spline axles. The exhaust is Magnaflow stainless throughout and it sounds awesome. Without the aid of a dyno, maximum output is estimated to be between 800 and 900hp.

The entire suspension has been upgraded with tubular control arms in the front and rear. The anti-sway bars have been beefed up to promote stiffness and there are Bilstein shocks on all four corners. The central chassis remains stock. This heavy Chevy has also been outfitted with four-wheel disc brakes with drilled and vented rotors. The wheels are 22-inch blacked out Rugatti customs sold by UAS Wheels in Hawthorne, California.

Let’s see what happens when the rubber meets the road.
