Heirloom Nova Posts Consistent 8-Second PassesYou have to love hand-me-downs like this pretty 1970 Chevrolet Nova. This work in progress has been owned by members of the same family for more than two decades. In that time, it has gone from being a weekend street warrior (with a bench seat and a column shifter) to the turbocharged work of art that you see in this video.

When this racer’s brother owned the Nova, it ran in the 12s. After it underwent a serious upgrade to a big block engine, it dropped down into the 10s. That was followed up by a small block with nitrous. Well, this guy quit school on account of recess, so you know he ain’t playing. He pulled that old stuff out and replaced it with a 400 cubic-inch LS engine and a 91-millimeter turbocharger. Now the car makes consistent low 8-second passes in the 150 to 165 mph range.

The turbo Nova is running in two classes today; Street Racer and Small Tire. This car is hooking up well, and the driver proves that he has some skills, taking the stripe in the (Street Racer) finals despite a land-yacht tracking him down near the end. There’s lots of great heads-up drag racing action on this one. Take a gander for yourself.
