Hello drag racing enthusiasts and welcome to an all out half-mile drag race between two premium German production sports cars. A few weeks ago, we were treated to a similar video which pitted the Audi R8 V10 against the Audi R8 V10 Plus and, as expected the Plus won out by a very narrow margin.
So, what would happen if we lined the Audi R8 V10 up against another similarly equipped German luxury sports coupe? The R8’s competition is no less than the long and sleek Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S. Both cars are built with meticulous care and precision engineering but only one can come out on top when the rubber meets the road – but which one?
The Mercedes-Benz is built a skosh differently than the Audi with a long front end and lots of curves. The AMS GT S also extracts horsepower in a slightly different manner. It is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8, whereas the R8 uses a larger 5.2-liter V10 engine. Mercedes chooses to substitute forced air induction for cubic inches with a twin turbocharger setup. Both automobiles use a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, although the GT S is rear-wheel driven and the Audi has all-wheel drive. Great video – have a look!
