Twin Turbo Viper – King of the Streets?

June 25th, 2015

Congratulations to Andy N. and the gang at D3 Performance Engineering for a win in the Rear-Wheel Drive Class at the 2015 Texas Invitational Automotive Airfield Exhibition. Andy also campaigned his twin turbocharged Viper successfully in the King of the Streets Class, defeating a couple of turbocharged Underground Lamborghinis and making it to the finals before falling to the AMS Performance Nissan GT-R. Andy’s Dodge Viper is powered by a 540-cubic-inch Gentry Performance engine with twin 76-millimeter turbochargers slamming air down its gullet. With the boost turned down to 25 psi, horsepower is estimated at 1,750, with a ceiling of Read More

2000HP GT-R vs. 2000HP Lamborghini

June 24th, 2015

Maybe you have heard of a little performance outfitter from Oberlin, Ohio, called Switzer Performance. Here is a video that depicts their flagship Goliath GT-R in head to head drag racing (and roll racing) against some pretty stout competition. Porsche, Nissan, Chevrolet, and Lamborghini all roll out to challenge Goliath. The GoPro mounted on the right front fender of the GT-R catches all the up-close action (does that hood make anyone else as nervous as it does me?) The Switzer Goliath package includes an engine and transmission rebuild, driveline and suspension upgrades, twin turbochargers, specially made manifolds and intercoolers, and Read More

2,000HP AMS GT-R King of the Streets

June 18th, 2015

For the second time in as many years,  the AMS GT-R has defeated all challengers at the event which many driving enthusiasts believe is the epitome of roll racing; the Texas Invitational Automotive Airfield Exhibition. Amid a field that includes several twin-turbocharged Lamborghinis and a TT-Dodge Viper, the AMS Performance built Nissan GT-R endures to the end in some very close heads up roll racing. The AMS GT-R is equipped with a fresh Alpha 4.0-liter all-aluminum big-bore engine block and a pair of Alpha CNC ported cylinder heads. A full Alpha exhaust system, specially tuned Alpha Omega turbo kit (complete Read More

C7 Z06 Vette vs. Lamborghini Huracan

June 10th, 2015

What is this? A humble Chevrolet that can hang in there with the legendary Italian supercar Lamborghini? It would seem to be the case in this video. This is a close one that takes place on an abandoned air-strip. The rear-wheel drive Z06 gets pretty “squirrely” during the warm-up pass, leading one to believe that it could have a problem against the all-wheel drive Huracan. Luckily this is a rolling race, so the hole shot is removed from the equation. The Chevy crosses the stripe first but the Lambo puts up a higher trap speed (151.4 mph to 150.4 mph). Read More

Lamborghini Huracan vs LP570 Super Trofeo on the Dyno

June 6th, 2015

While the Lamborghini Hurcan has many significant advantages over it’s predecessor, the Gallardo, including more power from the 5.2L V10, a 7 speed dual clutch transmission along with dynamic steering and updated launch control systems, we thought it would be interesting to compare it against the baddest and most extreme Gallardo produced, the LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale. Only 150 of the Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale’s were produced and while they were rated at 570HP, there were rumors that the car was making more power.  That additional power combined with a host of weight saving carbon fiber parts and an even faster shifting 6 speed e-gear transmission Read More

Lamborghini Battle: Aventador vs. Huracan

May 22nd, 2015

Talk about a running of the bulls; these two Italian supercars not only represent Lamborghini but they also represent approximately $650,000 in rolling stock. The Lamborghini brand has always been tied to famous fighting bulls, with most models named after bulls that have performed particularly valiantly in the ring. Aventador fought in the rings of Saragossa, Spain in 1993 and Huracan fought in 1879. Huracan is also the Mayan word for the god of wind, storm, and fire. The Aventador LP 700-4 boasts a 6.5-liter V12 engine (690HP) and a 7-speed semi-automatic transmission. The MSRP is around $400,000. The Huracan Read More

Lamborghini Huracan vs. Dodge SRT Viper T/A

May 20th, 2015

Two things about the Bay area: it is very windy there most of the time and they know how to host a spectacular supercar event. The Bay Area Racing Channel presents this awesome video (if you are a Lamborghini fan) of a Huracan absolutely annihilating a SRT Viper T/A. In all fairness the Viper never seems to gain traction in the right lane, but that is all part of drag racing, right? Despite similar horsepower ratings between the two cars (610 for the Huracan and 640 for the Viper), the Lambo appears to dominate this contest. Potential advantages for the Read More

Koenigsegg Agera Takes on All-Comers at VMAX200

May 11th, 2015

Take a gander at this Swedish supercar as it tows the line against a Ferrari LaFerrari, a Porsche 918 Spyder, and finally against a Ferrari 458 Speciale. The VMAX200 Hypermax, held on a private runway near London, England, is a top speed driving event geared towards the world’s most exotic automobiles. Over a billion dollars worth of rolling-stock regularly participates in this contest that tries the limitations of sports cars such as the McLaren P1 and the Koenigsegg CCX, as well as various Bugatti, Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini models. The Koenigsegg Agera N, shown in this video, has been modified from stock. It features Read More

200+MPH Street Racing Texas Style

April 24th, 2015

It has been said that everything is bigger in Texas. While we don’t condone street racing, the level of street racing horsepower displayed in this video is monstrous. On the one hand, we have a highly modified Lamborghini Gallardo advertising the capability to produce 1750-horsepower. In lane two, we have a similarly equipped Nissan GT-R boasting over 1500-horsepower. Can a lowly Nissan hold its own against this legendary Italian? Underground Racing (Charlotte, N.C.) has worked their magic on the Lambo. Beginning with extensive engine upgrades and a pair of twin billet 62-millimeter turbochargers, Underground Racing treated the Gallardo to a Read More

Ferrari 458 Spider vs. Lamborghini Super Trofeo Stradale Roll Racing

April 20th, 2015

This is the automotive equivalent of an Italian civil war. Take a look at this rolling closed track race between a 2015 Ferrari 458 Spider and a 2012 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale. The two supercars are nearly the exact same color. In short, they look alike, sound alike; they even have a similar power-to-weight-ratio. The Ferrari is equipped with a direct fuel injected and naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V8 that cranks out 596-horsepower at a whopping 9,000 RPMs. The Lambo uses a much larger 5.2-liter V10 to extrapolate 570-horsepower at 8,000 RPMs. Both cars are electronically relegated to a Read More
