Take a look at this video of a heads up drag race between the brand new McLaren MP4-12C vs Ferrari 458 vs Porsche 911 Turbo. The McLaren get’s the jump but still powers way ahead of the Ferrari and Porsche.

The new McLaren MP4-12C is powered by a Twin Turbo V8 putting out close to 600HP through a 7 speed dual clutch transmission. Weighing in at less than 3,000 pounds the MP4-12C is set to be a benchmark setting super car.

Take a look at this wicked Cadillac CTS-V running a 9.85 @ 139.7 MPH at Palm Beach International Raceway. Running a healthy 200 progressive shot of nitrous on a motor with forged internals and stock supercharger this CTS-V was able to pull a decent 1.54 60′ time on a set of drag radials. Other modifications include kooks headers, different supercharger pulleys along with a LS3 throttle body and a LPE cold air induction kit. Running through a stock transmission and torque converter, this CTS-V put down 865 horsepower and 850 ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheels. With a conservative 15% driveline loss, those dyno results put this 4 door sedan well over 1000 horsepower.

Cadillac CTS-V

We did some dyno testing and drag racing passes with 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo setup with a Twin Turbo Bolt-On kit by Heffner Performance.  We first headed over to HorsePower Logic in West Palm Beach, FL and strapped down the Gallardo to an AWD Mustang Dyno where it put down 740 AWHP on MS109 fuel at around 9 pounds of boost.  From the dyno we headed out to Palm Beach International Raceway to make a few passes down the drag strip.

The best ET at the drag strip was a 10.61 with the highest trap speed coming in at 138.63 MPH.   We had some issues determining when to shift since the car’s tachometer can’t quite keep up with how fast the engine is running through the gears with the twin turbo setup resulting in us tagging the limiter on a couple runs.  We used the VBOX to record some performance numbers with 0-60 MPH in just 2.9 seconds and 60-130 MPH coming in at 5.49 seconds with one shift from 3rd to 4th gear.

We also did some heads up runs with a very fast Nissan GT-R that currently holds the quickest ET and highest MPH records for any Nissan GT-R equipped with stock turbochargers.  To make things somewhat fair, we ran the GT-R without using it’s full launch control system, so both cars rolled off the line without a full launch.  The runs were recorded by ToTheFloor.com as well has having a GoPro camera attached to the side of the Gallardo.

Full Dyno, Timeslip and VBOX Data: Lamborghini Twin Turbo

Here is a close race between a Lamborghini Balboni LP550-2 against a Porsche 911 Turbo EVOMS with the Lambo pulling slightly ahead and holding on to it’s lead throughout the race.  The Lamborghini Balboni is a special rear wheel drive version of the Gallardo LP560 which is clearly demonstrated at the beginning of the video with it’s nice burnouts.

Here are a few videos of a new Ferrari 458 drag racing against a Lamborghini LP560-4 on a runway during a Bullfest event.  The races are closer that we thought they might be with the edge going to whichever car got the jump from the start.  The Ferrari 458 was pulling on the LP560 although the runway wasn’t quite long enough for that to really show.

Car and Driver just did some heads up testing with the brand new Ferrari 458 Italia and the Porsche 911 Turbo S.  While these aren’t real world drag racing results, it’s the first we’ve seen for these cars, so we’ll post em up to compare.

The new Ferrari 458 Italia has been hitting the streets for the last few months at some typical new Ferrari premiums, up to $50k over the already super high $270k.  Since then we’ve seen some impromptu street races and dyno results for the Ferrari, but no performance numbers until now.  The Ferrari 458 ended up running a 1/4 mile of 11.5 @ 125 MPH with a 0-60 time of just 3.3 seconds and 0-140 MPH in 15 seconds.

Porsche’s latest 911 Turbo S equipped with the 7 speed dual clutch PDK transmission seems like a bargain at just $162k especially in the performance numbers when compared against the Ferrari.  While the 911 Turbo S is 50 pounds heavier than the Ferrari and has less horsepower, it leaves  the Ferrari way behind with it’s all wheel drive and launch control systems.   The 911 Turbo S ran 10.8 @ 129 MPH with a 0-60 time of just 2.7 seconds.  The 911 continues to pull hard reaching 140 MPH in just 13 seconds, a full 2 seconds quicker than the Ferrari.

When looking at the power and torque numbers between the two cars, the Ferrari produces 398 ft-lbs of torque at 6000 RPM while the 911 Turbo is pushing out 516 ft-lbs of torque at just 2100 RPM.  We imagine the 911 “feels” a lot quicker when driving around town as you don’t have to be screaming at 6-9k RPM to get a decent rush of power.  Take a look through the links below for the complete stats for each car.

Underground Racing put up some video of it’s first twin turbo build on red Ferrari F430 racing against a brand new Lamborghini LP570-5 Superleggera. While it’s not quite a fair race with the Ferrari sporting 1200+ horsepower vs the stock LP570 with it’s 570HP, it’s still interesting to see just how fast the Ferrari can leave behind the Lambo. Lamborghini twin turbos with anywhere from 800-1500 horsepower have been running around for years and are usually very drivable at those power levels since they can hold down the power with it’s AWD systems, we wonder how the Ferrari does when starting from a stop or lower speeds.

GTBoard put up a video of a 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo with the PDK transmission running heads up from a roll against the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series. While the race was very close, it was surprising that the Porsche was able to jump ahead of the Benz each time when the race started, especially since the Mercedes V12 Twin Turbo Engine makes a lot more torque than the Porsche’s 6 cylinder twin turbo.

After the initial 1 car or so jump of the Porsche, the SL65 Black Series hangs on and eventually starts pulling on the Porsche, although before it can pass they run out of runway and the race is over.

As modern day vehicles from both the factory and from the tuner world become more powerful, quicker and faster, a new benchmark for performance has been catching on to quantify just how fast these cars are, 60-130 times.

A device made by Racelogic, called the Performance Box (VBOX) uses GPS and accelerometer data to record just about any performance metric you want to setup. The PerformanceBox logs your speed, position, G-forces, and distance to its memory card ten times every second for detailed analysis in the included software.  The Performance Box (VBOX) can be purchased online from around $450-$500 for the standard model.

One of the standard measurements in the Performance Box records the time it takes for a car to accelerate from 60-130 MPH. Testing how quick different cars accelerate from 60-130 MPH is a great way to compare how fast and how hard the cars are pulling since some of the traction issues on more powerful cars are taken away when accelerating from a roll.

Here is some  sibling V10 rivalry with a brand new Audi R8 drag racing heads up against a Lamborghini LP560-4 at Island Dragway, NJ.  Both cars have the same V10 motor, with the Lamborghini LP560-4 putting out 560HP while the Audi gets a slightly detuned version producing 520HP.   The difference in horsepower along with the LP560′s lighter weight are clearly demonstrated with the LP560 running 11.7 @ 122 MPH and the Audi R8 running 12.0 @ 116.5 MPH.  While the LP560-4 had a much better time and trap speed, it was a very close race to the end as the Audi must have got the jump from the start.
