200 MPH Street Race: Audi R8 vs. Nissan GT-R

June 4th, 2015

This is a real battle of the big boys. Here is another clip from the MRL, featuring a 1500hp 2010 Audi R8 and a very potent Nissan GT-R in a rolling race on the streets. Both drivers are somewhat close mouthed about their respective steeds but, as they say, “it will all come out in the wash”. The R8 seems to take the initial advantage but it proves fleeting as the mighty GT-R powers past and blasts to over 200 mph, seriously energizing the driver. The powerful Nissan is built around a 4.1-liter Sonny Bryant drag racing engine with twin Read More

BMW M6 vs. Audi RS7 Drag Race

April 23rd, 2015

In this video, these two “Bahn-Burners” are holding nothing back in a close 1/4-mile run. For decades the BMW M-Sport moniker has been synonymous with outstanding performance but as of late, Audi has also carved out a niche of its own. The BMW is an M6 Grand Coupe and the Audi is an RS7 Sportback. Let’s take a closer look. The Grand Coupe is amply equipped with a 560-horsepower 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1-seconds. The RS7 Sportback features a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that also makes 560-horsepower. It is Read More

March 3rd, 2015

Check out this video of an Audi RS7, with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine and all-wheel drive, nail a mid-10-second quarter mile with only minor performance enhancements. In case you are wondering, the car in the right lane (opposite the Audi) is a late-model Mustang and it got “smoked”. With a price tag of just over $100,000 the Audi sports sedan should be able to handle most Mustangs, even without tuning help. The RS7 is rated at 553-horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.7-seconds with a top speed (electronically limited) of 190 Read More

December 21st, 2014

Check out this 2015 Audi RS-7 powered by a 4.0L V8 Twin Turbo engine with some minor modifications running a very impressive 10.38 @ 133.5 MPH in the 1/4 mile at ATCO Raceway. With just a tune from APR, high flow cats and Milltek exhaust this Audi is running in McLaren territory with what looks like a pretty easy going and repeatable launch control setup.  There is no graph available but the 60-130 MPH time is listed at 6.7 seconds and we would estimate 0-60 MPH in ~2.8 seconds based on the timeslip data. Watch the video below and check out the timeslip Read More

June 13th, 2010

Here is some  sibling V10 rivalry with a brand new Audi R8 drag racing heads up against a Lamborghini LP560-4 at Island Dragway, NJ.  Both cars have the same V10 motor, with the Lamborghini LP560-4 putting out 560HP while the Audi gets a slightly detuned version producing 520HP.   The difference in horsepower along with the LP560’s lighter weight are clearly demonstrated with the LP560 running 11.7 @ 122 MPH and the Audi R8 running 12.0 @ 116.5 MPH.  While the LP560-4 had a much better time and trap speed, it was a very close race to the end as Read More

Audi R8 V10 vs Lamborghini Gallardo

February 4th, 2010

We had a full day of testing planned with a 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo and a 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI with the V10 engine.  The 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo is powered by a 5.0 liter V10 naturally aspirated motor producing 520HP as per Lamborghini.   The Audi R8 borrows it’s motor from the latest Gallardo LP560-4 using a 5.2 liter V10.  While the Gallardo LP560-4 is rated at 560HP, the Audi R8 is slightly de-tuned to 525HP. We put the Gallardo on a Mustang dyno to see how much power it really puts down.  The first pull was done with everything Read More
