BMW M5 with 670HP on Nitrous runs 10’s

April 5th, 2009

The BMW M5 is fairly limited with options for adding decent amounts of power to it’s naturally aspirated V10 engine. We’ve heard about some supercharger and turbocharged M5’s running around, but most seem to be “vaporware”, never really hitting the street with real numbers aside from worked up dyno sheets. If you want to make an M5 move, Nitrous seems to be the way to go.

AWD Motorsports seems to have the right combination of modifications along with a custom progressive nitrous system to boost it’s BMW M5 to 584 horsepower and 484 foot pounds of torque at the rear wheels as per their dyno graph and video on a DynoJet dyno using STD correction factors. Their car is equipped with the SMG transmission, so using an estimated 13% driveline loss, we’re looking at a 670+ horsepower M5!

Along with their nitrous system, they’re also running a custom tune done by Active Autowerkes, an ASR Engineering exhaust system, a RPI pulley as well as some BMC drop in air filters. Sporting some drag strip ready wheels from a BMW 740i wrapped with Mickey Thompson drag radial tires, this M5 was launching very well, pulling a 1.609 60′ time, allowing it to easily break into the 10’s running a best time of 10.908 @ 127.38 MPH. This run was done at the new Palm Beach International Raceway aka PBIR in typical South Florida weather, hot and humid, with the Density Altitude (DA) at 1376 feet. With some better weather this M5 is sure to go quicker and we look forward to seeing it happen soon.

Check out the dyno graph, dyno video, timeslip and video of the run below.
