Birkacup Street Elimination Tournament

August 19th, 2016

Birka Cup STREET RACE - Swedish CASH DAYS! 01The Birkacup street eliminator has got to be the greatest single invention of the Swedish people. How awesome would it be to have a national street racing tournament, where the baddest cars in the land come to compete in heads-up single elimination dig racing? Of course, in the U.S., it would need to take place south of the border.

Get this: These guys block off a section of the interstate and get down! Road rage must be a lot different in the city of Stockholm than it is in the States. I don’t know how things work in your town but if we blocked off the interstate for a street race, nonparticipants would try and attack us with guns, knives, tire irons – heck, probably even plow shares. The kicker is that this tournament has been going on (annually) for over a decade.

The rules are pretty straightforward; you run what you brung and hope you brung enough. The entry fee is $500/car and competitors meet off site and proceed to the the strip (at a designated time). In true street racing fashion, racers may trailer their cars to the first meeting site and drive to all other racing venues. After that, it’s just line up, run hard, and winner take all. Nitrous Volvos, blown Chevys, Fords with multiple turbochargers, and Opels with massive cubic-inches – they’re all here in this video of the baddest street cars in Sweden.

NOTE: We neither condone nor encourage racing on public streets.
