All-Wheel Drive Honda Civic – 8-Second Nightmare

June 26th, 2021

The words “all-wheel drive” and Honda Civic don’t usually go together. Then again, Harry Sparks and his crew at Sparks Racing sort of specialize in making good things even better. Check out what they have done with this ninth-generation Honda Civic Coupe.

The foundation of it all begins with the all-wheel drivetrain from a 2010 Honda CR-V. Harry chose the CR-V suspension because of the similarities between it and the Civic.

Under the bonnet is a 2.4-liter (Z7) inline 4-cylinder engine with an older V-TEC cylinder head (strategically worked). The engine block is sleeved with a stock crankshaft and CP Carillo connecting rods and pistons. Of course, it is turbocharged. Harry speculates that the combination is turning out approximately 1,000hp at the present time. It sure looks good doing it.

It is Day 1 of the Hail Mary Derby and Harry is looking to set a new World Record for a ninth-gen Civic. His first pass nets an 8.83 @ 162 mph. The next one was an 8.75 @ 164.49 mph.

As the sun began to set on Day 2, the Sparks Racing team treated themselves to a new personal best and World Record pass of 8.63-seconds @ 166.79 mph. What a memorable moment for these guys! Now, they are seeking an 8.5.

Taking advantage of the cool morning temperatures on Day 3, Harry and the fellas finally taste nirvana in the form of an 8.56 @ 169.32 mph.

Congratulations to a terrific race team and a true Honda guy.
