9-Second 1965 Chevy Impala

August 9th, 2018

Don’t overlook our brothers and sisters of speed and horsepower in the great pacific Northwest. Spokane County (Washington) Raceway and Street Car Takeover deliver with some of the maddest vehicles in the land battling it out in drag and roll racing action. Have a gander for yourself.

Right out of the gate – we have some mad cap roll racing hits. These guys are wide open with lots of imports (as one might expect) and top speeds in the 160-mph zone. Then there’s the Pontiac that loses it entering the trap and goes all headlights-taillights-headlights-taillights but never hits either wall (or the other car). Kudos to the driver on that save.

The huge Orange 1965 Impala is next. Despite weighing in at more than 4,300-pounds, this twin turbo monster manages to get through the quarter-mile in 9.65-seconds @ 149.65 mph. This is a great looking new build has a 540 cubic-inch motor and a pair of 45-millimeter turbochargers. It will undoubtedly improve in leaps and bounds.

Next, we have a weird looking DSM with no rear suspension. Don’t worry about the fact that it is bouncing all over the track. This guy lays down a 7.85-second pass @ 177.09 mph! A second DSM (Dodge Colt) looks like a junkyard pig but runs like a show car gazelle. This thing is all-wheel drive and powered by a 2.0-liter (4G63E) engine with an 85-millimeter turbo. When the smoke clears, the Colt has posted a 9.17-second pass @ 160.19 mph.

Lots more drag racing action on this one; including a 7-second @ 190 mph GT-R.
