840HP Dodge Demon – Test Hit

April 12th, 2017

Fiat Chrysler America (FCA) is set to raise the bar even higher in the area of high-performance stock production vehicles.

The official announcement of the impending 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has sports car enthusiasts foaming at the mouth in anticipation of its release. The Demon will be the first performance machine ever offered with drag radials and the most powerful mass production vehicle ever made in the U.S.

Not to be confused with the 707hp Hellcat, Dodge SRT has totally redesigned the propulsion system in the Demon and added a few new and innovative twists that should be thought provoking for any car builder.

In addition to an all-new (larger) supercharger, crankshaft, camshaft, and fuel injection system, the Demon also uses the air conditioning system to decrease the temperature of the intercooler – a brilliantly simple idea.

The Demon is also the first production vehicle to ever “tote the front” from a dead stop and is certified by the Guiness World Record folks as the first production car to hold a wheelie for 2.92-seconds. That’s pretty impressive.

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) bears witness that the Demon is capable of running the 1/4-mile in 9.65-seconds @ 140 mph. That means that it is also the best 1/4-mile car ever mass produced.

By all accounts, a racer could buy the Demon and put it right to work; whipping everything on the street or strip. Imagine what the addition of a nitrous shot (or two) or a turbocharger could do. Just something to chew on!
