800WHP Supercharged Ford GT vs. 850WHP Corvette ZR1

April 29th, 2020

This video represents the age-old battle between Ford and Chevrolet. Highly modified and ready for action – south of the border – these two beautiful specimens of automotive performance are a pleasure to look at and they both sound amazing. Before we get to the racing, let’s take a look under the hood and see what makes each of them tick.

Wide and low, the Ford GT comes equipped with a supercharged 5.4-liter DOHC V8 engine that churns out 550hp. Savage Garage (owner) has taken this particular car to a new level with a 4.5-liter Whipple supercharger upgrade and (obviously) some high-performance exhaust. These mods have resulted in a maximum output of 1,000hp at the crankshaft, yielding 800hp at the rear wheels.

The C7 Corvette ZR1 is factory fortified with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that can make 650hp and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. The guys at StreetSpeed have prepared this Chevy with a pulley upgrade and a high-lift camshaft. It now makes 1,000hp at the crankshaft and 850hp at the rear tires.

Bonus video includes a white-knuckle ride-along in the Ford GT on a narrow country road. If you listen carefully, you can almost hear the cameraman’s cheeks eating the seat. This car has an extremely low center of gravity. The roof line of the GT is not even as high as the deck lid of the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. As I said, this car looks awesome and handles like a dream. Question is: Will it have enough raw power to tackle the souped-up ZR1? Check out the video to find out.
