8-Second Triumph TR6

February 1st, 2018

Fast Eddie and his 1964 Triumph TR6 are among the most interesting characters you will find at Hot Rod Drag Week. Despite his frazzled hair and disheveled appearance, Fast Eddie not only tackles this challenging contest of endurance and speed but consistently turns out high 8-second elapsed times at around 150 mph.

Eddie’s car is a real eye-catcher with a monsterous turbocharger protruding through the hood. It all begins with a handcrafted tube chassis underneath an extended (14-inches) TR6 body. The engine is no less interesting. With everyone else opting for the LS package, Eddie has chosen to go with a family heirloom (1970) Pontiac mill. It is a 400 cubic-inch block with a stroker kit that nets 488 cubic-inches. A Garrett 91-millimeter turbocharger (21 psi) is the cherry on top of this cake. The transmission is a heavy-duty 4L80E automatic with a lockup torque converter.

With four race tracks in five days and a 1,000-mile road trip in their immediate future, the looming question is; will Fast Eddie give out first or the car? Maybe they will both hold together and win their class. Check out the video to find out.
