600HP Camaro vs. 720HP Nissan 240Sx – Drift Cars Go Drag Racing

November 11th, 2022

Alright, it’s on and hopping today. On a closed course (somewhere on the left coast), a pair of premium drift cars have come together for a series of 1000-foot drag races. Both these cars are built to go every direction – except straight. Nevertheless, they are scheduled to engage in contests of pure straight-line speed and acceleration. Buckle-up and take ahold of the grab handle. It’s about to get wild!

First, we have a radically modified 2010 Chevrolet Camaro with a naturally aspirated LS7 7.0-liter V8 engine mated to a 4-speed manual (dogbox) transmission. The Camaro is rear-wheel drive coupe outfitted with a full carbon-fiber body. It weighs approximately 2640-pounds. A single glance inside the cockpit, and you know this is a race car.

The opposition is a 1990 Nissan 240Sx (with a widebody kit). On the business end is a turbocharged 6.7-liter V8 engine (LQ9 stroked out to 408-cubes) that can make 720hp. A Garrett 75-millimeter GTX turbo provides the forced air induction. The rear-wheel drive 240 has a 4-speed manual transmission and it tips the scale at about 3080-pounds (no carbon-fiber here). Oh, by the way, car owner Pablo is an elite level high-speed drifter.

Both drivers claim to have no drag racing experience. Shall we see which one of these guys is the fastest learner?
