200 MPH on the Autobahn – Ferrari 488

June 13th, 2017

Climb in and take a ride in a stunning Ferrari 488 as it zips through Germany and into France on the legendary Autobahn.

As you probably already know, the Autobahn is a lovely network of highways with sections where speed has no meaning. Sure, there are recommended speed limits but no mandatory maximum speed.

Most car enthusiasts have – at one time or another – dreamed of getting in a high performance sports car and tearing through the German countryside. I know that I certainly have.

I can’t imagine a better car for the task than the Ferrari 488 (well, maybe one or two but this one is nice).

Like most Ferrari automobiles, the 488 GTB is bred to be a race car. At its heart is a high-revving (8,000 RPM), twin turbocharged, 3.9-liter, V8 engine with a dual stainless-steel exhaust system. It is capable of producing 661hp and 560 lb.-ft. of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in only 3-seconds and has an electronically controlled top speed of approximately 200 mph. It’s a rear-wheel drive car with a driver adaptive 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission (F1 SuperFast Sequential Shift Control with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters).

This Italian work of art has double-wishbone front suspension with coil springs and a multilink rear suspension setup. Electro-hydraulic, speed sensing power steering and 4-wheel ceramic disc brakes (drilled rotors) help to keep the shiny side facing upward.

This is a well produced video that gives us a birds eye view into an amazing car and an awesome quest to reach 200 mph on a public thoroughfare.
