1967 Corvette Stingray – Half-Mile Monster

July 31st, 2018

The SHIFT S3CTOR Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack draws some of the most fabulous cars in the country into their abandoned airstrips to put up memorable top speed numbers.

Nevertheless, nobody was expecting to see a vintage Corvette knocking off the likes of McLaren, Lamborghini, and Nissan GT-R entries. Until they began to take a closer look.

Push past those classic Stingray lines and open the hood. You’ll find a more modern motif. The fuel injected (Holley controller) mill is a Chevrolet LT1 small block (5.7-liter) with a pair of 62-millimeter turbochargers (18 – 20 psi of boost). The transmission is a 200R4 out of a Buick Grand National.

Car owner Kyle tells us that he has enjoyed building the twin turbo ‘Vette as a family project with his teenage sons. Nice work guys. You’ve built quite a ride.

Kyle comes off the trailer strong and just gets stronger with each run. He ends up posting a new personal record and a pretty impressive pass of 176.1 mph, near the end of the day. Have a gander for yourself.
