1953 Chevy Bel Air – 10-Second Sleeper

This is one of the most entertaining videos that I have seen in quite a while. If features a true street sleeper in the form of a beat up 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air. Never mind the rust and look past the patina – this thing is big and heavy but that don’t keep it from being fast!

Of course, it all starts under the hood where a 6.0-liter LS (Chevy) V8 with an Isky camshaft and mild porting and polishing on the cylinder heads is working away. It’s also running a Precision turbocharger with Holley electronic fuel injection/engine management. The combination has propelled this lead sled to a best elapsed time (quarter-mile) of 9,5-seconds @ 140 mph.

Coming at you from Street Car Takeover Dallas, you are about to see an older dude in an old car make some young dudes – in their younger cars – look pretty silly. The owner of this Bel Air is one with his machine and he comes out of the hole like he has modern launch control (he does not).

The guy gets the jump on a pair of Hellcats and an R35 Nissan GT-R before lining up in the finals against a 1971 HEMI ‘Cuda.

I won’t reveal who wins but I will say this: They are running in the 10.0 Index Class and neither competitor goes over 10.1-seconds in the Finals. Very, very close race. Have a look.
