12-Wide Airstrip Drag Race

September 23rd, 2017

Greetings drag racing fans and welcome to what is being billed as the World’s Greatest Drag Race 7. This epic contest of acceleration and speed is being held at Vandenberg Air Force Base – home of the 30th Space Wing of Air Force Space Command. Extreme speed is no stranger to this base or these fighting men. They test rockets on a daily basis.

The rockets being tested today will include the Alfa Romeo Giulia, the Aston Martin DB11, the 650hp Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, the underpowered Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, the pricey Ferrari 488 GTB, the Lexus LC500, the McLaren 570GT, the 577hp Mercedes Benz AMG GTR, the Nissan GT-R Nismo, the Porsche 718 Cayman S, the Porsche 911 Turbo S, and (last but certainly not least) the (totally electric) Tesla Model S P100D. Where are the Mopars? Doesn’t it seem like you might want to throw a Hellcat in the mix of the greatest drag race ever?

Despite being the heaviest car in the race, the Tesla (sedan) puts the world on notice by jumping out of the hole like a bullet and remaining out front throughout. Although the Ferrari and the Porsche 911 turbo S were gaining rapidly, they simply ran out of track before either could close the gap. As it turns out, the Hellcat wouldn’t have fared well against the P100D either.

You definitely don’t want to miss this one. I feel more like a winner for watching.

Here’s the finishing order:

  1. 2107 Tesla S P100D 10.5-seconds @ 125 mph
  2. 2016 Ferrari 488GTB 10.7-seconds @ 135.2 mph
