Chevy Impala SS/Tim Wilkerson Post-Race/NHRA Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2008 - With two No. 1 qualifying awards and a semifinal round appearance at Gainesville (Fla.), Tim Wilkerson has been pounding loudly on the winner's circle door this season in the Funny Car category. Today the Levi Ray Shoup Chevy Impala SS driver knocked it completely down and captured his first victory in nearly five years by defeating Ashley Force in the final round. It was Chevrolet's third Funny Car victory this season in only five attempts. "We've had a good car all year," Wilkerson said. "We've had some mechanical failures and I made some mistakes tuning the car at Houston when we put a hole out in the second round there against Del (Worsham), but he just had his stuff together and whooped me. But this is kind of cool for the single-car teams, don't you think? We have Tony Pedregon winning one, and me and Del, and I think that's really cool. The NHRA has done a really good job leveling the field, and the Chevy Impala, that body is really helping us out. That thing is the cat's meow when it comes to these bad tracks."

GMC/Cory McClenathan/Top Fuel/FRAM/Post-Race/Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2008 - Cory McClenathan defeated Antron Brown in the final round of Top Fuel at the SummitRacing.com Nationals. McClenathan carried the GMC colors to the winner's circle for his first national-event victory since October 2006, and his first ever at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. McClenathan qualified the FRAM/GMC dragster in the No. 5 position and defeated J.R. Todd in round one with a 4.6309 e.t. at 324.05 mph, Morgan Lucas in round two with a 4.815 e.t. at 305.91 mph, and Brandon Bernstein in the semifinals with a 4.760 second run at 315.12 mph. In the championship heat against Antron Brown, McClenathan's dragster crossed the finish line with a 4.654 e.t. at 315.86 mph to Brown's 4.703-second run at 315.93 mph. McClenathan's margin of victory was .041 of a second. It was McClenathan's 30th career win, his 52nd career final round appearance and his second final-round appearance this season moving the 45-year-old resident of Indianapolis into fourth place in the POWERade standings.

Pontiac GXP/Jason Line Post-Race/Las Vegas NHRA April 13
LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2008 - Jason Line captured his first national-event victory of the season by defeating Greg Stanfield in a close all-Pontiac GXP final round. The 38-year-old Minnesota native and current resident of Troutman, N.C., entered raceday with his Summit Racing Pontiac qualified in the No. 2 position. Line defeated Johnny Gray in round one running 6.772 seconds at 203.74 mph, Jeg Coughlin in round two with a 6.789 e.t. at 203.83 mph, and in the closest race of the day, Kurt Johnson in the semifinals with a 6.793 second run at 203.58 mph. In the finals against Stanfield, both Pontiacs were close to even off the starting line with Stanfield's GXP grabbing a slight advantage, but by the 330-foot marker, Line's Pontiac edged ahead and crossed the finish line with a winning 6.782 e.t. at 203.83 mph. Stanfield followed with a 6.816-second run at 203.16 mph. Line's margin of victory was .03 of a second. "This is the best car I've had in a year and a half," Line said. "This is really exciting and a big deal for us, and today we managed to get it done. The engine didn't perform as well today as we would have liked, but the car made up for it and the chassis department saved us. Especially when we had to race Kurt (Johnson) in that right lane. Everybody struggled to get down it (the right lane) but that 6.79, I have to admit, was a pretty impressive run by anybody's standards."

Pontiac GXP/Greg Stanfield/ProStock/Las Vegas Pre-Race
LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2008 - Greg Stanfield was looking to capture his first career Pro Stock victory at the 9th annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals, but his Attitude Apparel Pontiac GXP came up a fraction of a second short at the finish line. Stanfield qualified in the No. 8 spot and defeated Greg Anderson in round one, pole-setter Kenny Koretsky in round two and Jim Yates in the semifinals before facing Line in the title round. The 42-year-old resident of Bossier City, La., was making his 5th career final-round appearance in the Pro Stock category and his first since the 2007 NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. Stanfield's sterling effort this weekend was his best yet this season and moves him up one spot in the POWERade points standings from 10th place to ninth. "It was an excellent weekend for us," Stanfield said. "The track was tricky and that was the bottom line for us. Jason is a good racer and that's a strong team. We got one of the Summit cars in the first round and came up a little short in the finals -- I missed the tree in that last round. Right now it's been tough for me to win one but we're not giving up. We're going to get one of these. "We were clicking today -- everything felt really good. The competition is brutal out here and I'm just glad to be a part of it. There was no guarantee we were going to get by anybody today, but we made four solid runs, runs we can go back, look at and learn a lot from, and that in itself is very satisfying. We'll go to Bristol and test and work on raceday stuff. That's where the track changes so much that we don't have as good a handle on it as we would like, but I like the way the car is running right now. We were lacking a little bit, but this weekend was a big step in the right direction."

Baja's Unknown Takes Toll on GR Racing
Mesa, Arizona (March 14, 2007) When GR Racing rolled their Ford F-150 Trophy Truck off the trailer in downtown Ensenada, Mexico on Friday morning, all systems were go for what was expected to be a short sprint for endurance athlete and off road racing's young gun, Garron Cadiente. Both Cadiente and his teammate, Ron Whitton, had been in Baja prerunning the SCORE Baja 250 throughout week and confidence was brimming in the GR Racing stable. That all changed in a split second as the No.38 Geiser-built FORD race truck tangled with a dump truck skirting the race course late Friday afternoon. "The team came together and wrenched all night in order to put my freshly prepped truck on the start line early Saturday morning. They worked tirelessly, replacing bent tubes, shocks and steering components. We took a hard hit very close to the race, but the guys really put together a winning effort just to get the truck to the start line," remarked a sore Cadiente. The short race saw both the No.38 and 39 GR Racing race trucks get around the 215-mile race course without any major problems. Cadiente's bruised race truck was fitted with spare suspension from his prerunnner and the setup was different than his race setup, barring him from racing at top speed. Claiming the 10th position in a field of 30 SCORE Trophy Truck starters, Garron continues to stride in search of a SCORE class championship. Cadiente explained,"Baja has been difficult for our team. I'm more than disappointed with the events leading up to the race, rendering the race truck in less then perfect race condition. The team showed tremendous depth in repairing the truck from the pre-race accident and we continue to build character and gain experience while racing in Mexico. We still have four races to go and the two biggest races of the season, the 500 and 1000, are still to come. You can be sure we're charging hard towards the balance of the season." Succumbing to a rear end failure, off road racing's, "Fastest Grandpa" railed his No.39 race truck through Baja's challenging terrain before being stopped by a faulty rear end. "My truck really runs fast. We were second on the road at the 100-mile mark and then had a mishap with the rear end. It's a shame, because the No.39 truck had it all together and we were racing hard until the rear-end let go," said Ron Whitton. At times during the past two seasons, the rigors associated with racing in Baja have stung the two-truck team, however that didn't deter Ron Whitton from capturing a third place finish at the SCORE Baja 1000 in one of the most difficult point-to-point races held on the planet. GR Racing prepares for the Best in the Desert "Terrible's Town 250" on April 28, 2007 in Pahrump, Nevada. Held 60-miles outside of the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas, Nevada, the BITD Terrible's Town 250 draws one of the strongest fields of racers to the desert of Southern Nevada. Garron Cadiente captivated the audience of desert racing in 2006 with a stellar victory and is staged for a repeat performance. Join GR Racing on Friday, April 27, 2007 at the Terrible's Town Casino where you can stop by and chat with drivers, Garron Cadiente and Ron Whitton. GR Racing Survives Mayhem at SCORE Baja 500
Race day excitement filled the streets of downtown Ensenada, Baja California, as the world's top desert racers assembled at the start line of the prestigious SCORE Baja 500, awaiting their turn to charge across the majestic Baja Peninsula. This year's race celebrated the 39th running of the SCORE Tecate Baja 500. A record field of 492 racers took to the start line in yet the biggest SCORE Baja 500 in the 39 year history of the race. Two of those racers were GR Racing's Garron Cadiente and Ron Whitton. Each racing in the elite SCORE Trophy Truck class, GR Racing rolled out their meticulously prepped SCORE Trophy Trucks in anticipation of chasing victory through the rock-ladened and silt-filled 424.22 mile race course. Seated behind the wheel of the #38 SCORE Trophy Truck, only a few trucks back from the green flag, sat last year's SCORE Rookie of the Year, Garron Cadiente. Focused and ready to get down to business from within the cockpit of the Geiser-built race truck, Cadiente's thoughts outlined the first 122-miles to the Mike's Sky Ranch turnoff. Likened to an Olympic downhill skier, Cadiente's long stare told a silent tale of the mental preparation of the world's top trophy truck racers. Garron explained, "The start of the race tends to be something out of the Wild Wild West. With 33 Trophy Trucks raging from the start line a mere minute apart, we expected the traffic to be heavy in the beginning. The #38 truck ran flawless and we stuck to our race plan strategy to race at 85% until the last hundred miles and make a charge towards the finish line. With a race of this length, the attrition was expected to be significant and our crews informed us of the same. What I didn't expect was to get sick in the section behind Mike's Sky Ranch. While racing at speed through the most technical portion of the race course, I found myself fighting off severe illness. When I arrived to race mile 281, I decided to get out of the race truck and turn it over to our second driver, Jeff Geiser, giving him the opportunity to charge to the finish and get us the victory. However, we fell too far behind to catch up to Larry (Ragland) and Robby (Gordon) who had both been driving fast all day long." While Cadiente fought off the Baja demons of sickness, Ron Whitton continued his foray through the rock-strewn gardens that challenged the hardiest of desert racing souls. Racing in front of nearly 200,000 fans spread out along the Baja 500 racecourse, Whitton wheeled the yellow and red truck through the nastiest terrain the Baja Peninsula has to offer, oftentimes grinning beneath his Bell carbon-fiber race helmet. Ron described, "Racing in Baja is absolutely one of the most enjoyable activities I do. This time I've spent the better part of two weeks down here in Ensenada prerunning the race course many times and it doesn't get old. My new Geiser-built FORD F150 prerunner is pretty close in character to my race truck and I love getting in the dirt and putting on the miles. "The performance of our young team has grown tremendously over the past year and I couldn't be any prouder of the great job the boys behind the scenes do for GR Racing. The logistics and resources involved coordinating and implementing a two-truck trophy truck race team is a daunting task and our crew never ceases to amaze me." At last season's SCORE Baja 1000, the granddaddy of all desert races, Whitton earned a third place finish among the toughest and fastest desert racers in the world. Whitton is regarded by his peers and his grandchildren as, "The Fastest Grandpa in the West" and that nickname held true, as he put the #39 GR Racing trophy truck in the 12th spot among a rugged group of off road racers at this past weekend's Baja 500 extravaganza. "The race course proved to be incredibly challenging. Of course, on race day, the race course takes a different shape than the previous week and overcoming some of those challenges is part of the game. We faired well this time around and I'm looking forward to the 40th SCORE Baja 1000 in November. Last season, I finished third and we're making plans to improve on that mark this time around," remarked the smiling Ron Whitton. The 2007 SCORE Desert Series features six races throughout the year, culminating with the SCORE Baja 1000. The record-setting race was filmed for television by Aura360, SCORE'S TV production partner, to air a one-hour special on The Outdoor Channel in the U.S. and ESPN International worldwide. The completion of the SCORE Baja 500 marks the end of the third race in the series with the next race being the Terrible's Cup III held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on July 20-21, 2007. Visit www.gnrracing.com for the latest results, photo and video galleries from the 2007 SCORE Tecate Baja 500 in Baja California.
