1972 Toyota Corolla Turbo Race Car
I dig these old Toyotas so I was quick on the lens cap when I spotted this trailered racer at a gas station on Foxon Ave in New Haven, Connecticut near the East Haven town line. The owner didn't speak english and I don't speak spanish but I did understand the words "turbo" and "Limerock" when I heard 'em. I think he said he's going to be racing it there next week (today is Oct.14 2006)so you might want to go see him race. I forgot to ask him what year this car is so if anyone knows please comment...

Racing a Toyota Corolla in reverse ends fatally

On February 1st, 2008, my friend (Jim Szelega) at only 17 years old made a mistake that would cost him his life, which he enjoyed here in our small town north of Boulder Colorado.
It was just a stupid race. An Oldsmobile that was going forward, and Jim was going in reverse.
He was going too fast, lost control and went over an embankment. We ran to his aid as soon as the video stopped to see the horrifying reality of the situation. Jim's car had rolled 2 times ejaculating him through the vehicles side window and crushing him in the process. Amazingly, he was conscious, groaning and mad at himself for doing something so foolish but he looked so horrible. We called EMS immediately and I thank them for their excellent response time. But after a week of suffering on life support, his family pulled the plug. 17 years old is too young to die, please pass this on to any teen drivers that you know of that may drive recklessly.
We will always miss you Jim!
The laughter you hear is simply before his friends realized what the crash did to him.
