WoW! - 40 Shelby Cobras Racing (Replicas + 1 Original)
http://www.kitcarconnection.com
More than 40 Factory Five Racing "Shelby Cobra" and "Shelby Daytona Coupe" replicas / kit cars invaded the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to tear up the race track in late 2004.
The event entitled; Western Cobra Round-up was organized by members of the local club with cars coming from Arizona, Utah, California and from a number of other surrounding states.
The Shelby American Factory was literally right down the street and it was no surprise to see an original Shelby Cobra (canary yellow #33) arrive and race in style.
The race course was also located very close to the Nevada Airforce base and we were buzzed by a number of F16, F18s and even a couple of A10 Warthogs.
Levi and Roush Racing were also both represented as was Dave Smith, President of Factory Five Racing who spoke at the closing banquet later in the evening.
Thanks to the organizers.

Shelby Cobra in the Road America Paddock
In 1962, ex-race car driver Carroll Shelby installed Ford's 260 cubic inch V8 in the 10-year old British AC Bristol sports car to create the Shelby Cobra. Big V8's in lightweight sports cars had been done before, but never with the sponsorship of a major carmaker like Ford.
Over the years before production ended in 1967, the fenders and tires got fatter and the engines got bigger (all the way up to 427c.i.), and it spawned a raft of kit car imitations and subsequent reproductions by Shelby himself.
British carmaker Sunbeam was inspired to shove that same 260 V8 under the hood of its Alpine sportscar to produce the Tiger. It lasted only a few years before Sunbeam was bought by Chrysler.
