What Do Women Want In A Car?
What do women want in a car? There is a new one on the lot designed to deliver exactly the safety features women say matter most. KMBC's Bev Chapman got a preview of the Infiniti EX 35. "The first thing you're going to notice is there's no fumbling for the keys. They're in my pocket, but you don't even need them," Chapman reported. A sensor lets you in the car. Then, you can start it up by pushing a button -- you don't need a key. "We have four cam, V6 engine, right out of racing technology," said Britt Brown with Major Infiniti in Kansas City. Some features women said they wanted were easy access to phone, navigation, information and help. The EX 35 has a talking-on-board navigation system, so the driver can keep his or her hands on the wheel. Women also said a car's safety features were important to them. "We have intelligent airbags, which know the difference between a 20-mph impact and an 80-mph impact," Brown said. There is also an alarm that sounds if the driver veers out of the lane or forgets to signal a turn. The EX 35 gets an estimated 16 miles per gallon in the city, and 23 mpg on the highway. But when you bring it to a stop, that's when it earns the name "smart car." "It actually shows you where you're going to go," Brown said. The car has four cameras on the exterior, so blind spots are no longer a problem. There is also a sonar that will sound when the driver gets too close to another vehicle, and a parallelogram to guide you. "(It's) technology we've needed for a long, long time. I'm sure glad to see it coming," Brown said. Chapman test drove the car and reported that the ride is smooth. The car's entertainment center has everything from a hard drive to an iPod holder. "While it was engineered with women in mind, men are going to like this car, too," Chapman reported. The EX 35 costs between $37,000 and $44,000. The model has been on the lots in Kansas City for about a week.
